Upper rock
Useful information on St Michaels cave, the Moorish castle, O´Haras battery and the war tunnels. The upper part of The Rock of Gibraltar has much more to offer then just a great view of Africa, Spain and the lower part of Gib.
The upper rock is a nature reserve and can be reached by car or the famous cable car from the Alameda gardens end of Main street. This nature reserve is unique and offers a wide variety of birds, plants and of course the famous Barbary ape, the only wild ape on the European continent. As the old saying goes "whilst there are wild monkeys on the rock it will remain British".
The Gibraltar Heritage Fund are managing the conservation of the upper rock and the historical sites that can be visited.
